Stepping Away from Substance Abuse with Sobriety Support

Our goal at AFAR is to provide safe recovery homes for addicts and alcoholics. We offer a residential home that is free of drugs and alcohol. Our homes offer daily living tasks for a stronger transition to a healthy, sober lifestyle. We do all that we can to give those who have completed a rehabilitation or detox program a better chance at living a life free from substance abuse.

Our sober houses offer sober living in the Burlington, New Jersey area with support from house mates who are also going through the recovery process. AFAR provides a food card to each house on a bi-weekly basis to help with food costs. There are available transportation sources from the train and bus systems in our area. We provide internet access to help in job searches, locating recovery meetings and recovery resources.

Residents who comply with the regulations of the house and remain active and contributing members of the household may stay for a maximum of 3 years. At this time, if a resident feels they need to remain in our houses longer, it will be determined by the AFAR board on an individual basis. Our weekly rental cost is determined by the location of the house. We have a $100.00 application fee.

We require those living in our houses to assist with daily chores and responsibilities. Residents learn how to manage a home and live independently so they are better equipped to thrive in the real world. Our homes provide the safe environment needed for those new to sobriety. Residents are able to focus on their recovery without the pressures of negative influences and financial concerns. We instill a spirit of cooperation and inspire individuals to grow in the recovery process.

  1. Each individual requesting admission into our houses must have an interview with the board member running the house.
  2. Each individual must sign release papers from the detox or treatment center they are at. A counselor must be working with you.
  3. You must agree to all the AFAR rules and policies to become a member of AFAR. This includes a 2-week probation period, agreeing to do 90 meetings in 90 days, curfew restrictions, random drug testing, getting a job and finding a sponsor.

Our scholarships are available to members in good standing of AFAR that need extra help to remain in our houses.  This could include illness, loss of job or other hardship.  We do not give scholarships to move into our houses.
